Detlev Litzkow - Managing Director
Detlev was born and schooled in Berlin, Germany. In the late sixties he studied photography, along with studies in commerce and business structure. In 1970 Detlev migrated to Australia, where he worked as a freelance photographer with major clients including the Top Floor Model Agency in Sydney.
In the mid seventies he and his wife established a progressive and prosperous bookstore in Coogee, Sydney. His strong sense of community involvement led him to join the NSW Ambulance Service, training to paramedic Level 4 (ALS). Detlev was with the NSW Ambulance Service from June 1978 until March 2000. He received the National Service Medal in 1995. This profession disciplined him to perform competently under pressure and enhanced his abilities in response management, negotiation and issue resolution.
Detlev’s interest in business marketing and development was not abandoned during his term with the Service, and he continued to build his skills through training and community involvement, when in the late 80's, he was instrumental in the founding of Ethnic Radio with 2YOU-FM in Tamworth, where he produced and directed the Ethnic Radio Program. Detlev was the executive producer responsible for producing the weekly program in four languages while coordinating and directing the regular and guest presenters. He produced the program for over six years and the program is still running today.
During that time Detlev also worked freelance with SBS Radio in Bondi, Sydney. One year he produced interviews with German Country Music Performers during Country Music Festival here in Tamworth for SBS Radio.
As a Director of Radio 2YOU-fm Detlev was actively involved in the production and presentation of a thrice-weekly magazine program as well as the overall running of the radio station as part of his role as director of 2YOU-fm. He was also responsible for the procurement of funding available to ethnic radio production from various Government departments and community sponsors. 2YOU-FM received substantial capital investment from the income of the Ethnic Radio Department due to Detlev’s and his team's dedicated and tireless commitment.
His business intuition led him to establish an integrated team of marketing professionals, under the banner of Itcom Marketing. Detlev has been the CEO of Itcom Marketing and the majority shareholder of the company in Northern NSW since his retirement from the NSW Ambulance Service in March 2000.
At present Detlev is involved with the following groups:
The Tamworth Police District's Road Safety Committee. For this committee Itcom Marketing conducted a research project including all year 11 students in the Tamworth area. The findings of this research helped the committee to formulate a campaign to reduce speeding. The Television commercial was developed by the team of Itcom Marketing by conducting focus groups for the Tamworth Council, as part of the committee, we were able to focus on the main points that might influence young people to reduce speeding. You might have seen the TVc "Speed and it will cost you!". Itcom Marketing received a citation for their work from the NSW Police.
Detlev, being a director of the Tamworth District Chamber of Commerce and Industry was asked to conduct the marketing campaign for the chamber. Working closely with the Chamber Manager and members of the marketing committee we achieved good results in the membership area. At present Itcom Marketing developed the TVc for the Chamber, which is currently broadcasted on Prime TV.
As a director of the BEC Detlev is also involved with marketing, and the development of the web site for the Business Enterprise Centre here in Tamworth.
Due to Detlev’s involvement with the BEC the Department for State and Regional Development asked him to conduct the evening seminar on Marketing for the Women in Business Mentoring Program. The seminar was held on the 10th of September.
As a director of the BEC Detlev is also involved with the Young Achievers of Australia Award Program. Stephen Maher, the President of the BEC and Detlev helped year 11 students in running a business. This activity is done after school hours and is an extra curricula for the students involved. The students are form Farrer, Calrossy and Mac Carthy High School here in Tamworth. In 2004 Detlev again is coordinating the YAA program in Tamworth with a new strong mentoring team.
